Rome, June 5 (LaPresse) – “During the meeting, we analyzed the recent local elections, the ongoing run-offs, and the upcoming regional elections,” said Giovanni Donzelli, head of organization for FdI, at the end of the party’s National Executive meeting held in Via della Scrofa, Rome.
Speaking about the regional elections, the deputy added: “We want to put forward the best possible candidate in every region, without trying to claim any flags, and we are sure the allies will do the same, who currently have more regions than us in proportion to their electoral weight. We are not going to play the Cencelli game, and we expect the allies not to do it either.”
“As for the rest, we reiterated that there is no ideological barrier to addressing the issue of a third term if it is raised by the Regions. If they bring up this topic, we will discuss it. We have said it is wrong for each Region to decide the number of terms individually — there must be a national reflection. It is a matter to be considered as a balance of powers,” Donzelli continued. “Could this reflection start before the regional elections? The Regions have not formally raised it yet; when they do, we will see the timing. It must be a broad and serious issue, not for isolated cases. There is no preclusion to addressing it either before or after the next regional elections. If the issue of a third term is raised with a document from the Conference of Regions, we will see.”
