Rome, June 5 (LaPresse) – “We have criticized the Security Decree since it was first introduced as a draft bill. For 14 months, it was left sitting in Parliament, and then it was replaced with a decree introducing 14 new crimes and nine new aggravating circumstances. We will continue to fight this measure, which does not bring more security, only more repression,” said Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein in a front-page interview with Domani.
“Meloni’s right-wing government gives no answers on social issues, while Italy has some of the lowest wages in Europe, the highest utility bills, and endless waiting lists in healthcare. And now they’re issuing a decree to repress dissent,” said the centre-left leader, “even peaceful dissent by workers, students, and activists protesting the government’s inaction.”
“Their authoritarian turn in the name of security,” she added, “is a way to hide the fact that they have no answers on economic and social matters.”
