Milan, May 15 (LaPresse) – "Rubio is right, Putin is trying to delay the ceasefire for two reasons. First, he seeks to conquer as much territory as possible, and second, he has an internal problem. He has an army of a million men who are paid much more than Russian workers, so he has to think about how to solve this issue. Moreover, the entire Russian industry is focused on defense." These were the words of Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, interviewed by Bruno Vespa on the program ‘Cinque minuti’ on Rai1.

"That’s why we, in agreement with the Americans and Europeans, believe that new sanctions should be imposed on Russia. By putting economic pressure on Putin, he will be forced to pay his military personnel less, and he will have to reconsider his position and reach a ceasefire agreement," Tajani concluded.

Today, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the U.S. has low expectations for the Istanbul talks between Russia and Ukraine.
