Milan, 23 April (LaPresse) – ‘Is there really controversy over the declaration of five days of national mourning? There's unnecessary fuss about everything… Who ever thought of obscuring anything?’ ’Neither the prime minister nor the ministers, myself included, have ever thought of prohibiting or hindering anything, let alone such an important celebration as the anniversary of the end of the civil war and the restoration of democracy.’ This was stated by Nello Musumeci, Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policy, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, referring to the controversy surrounding the declaration of five days of national mourning for the death of Pope Francis. ‘We simply call for sobriety to be observed in all public events until the day of the Pope's funeral. Nothing is imposed, of course. Everyone interprets and experiences sobriety according to their own sensibilities, with the serenity of believers and the good manners of non-believers,’ Musumeci added.
