Justice, Nordio: "Severino Law? We cannot and do not intend to change it now"

Milan, April 9 (LaPresse) – "We realize that the Severino law conflicts, at least theoretically, with the principle of presumption of innocence. On the other hand, this principle is already weakened in other situations in our criminal procedure code." However, "at this moment, our main concern is the fight against administrative crime. Therefore, we cannot and do not intend to change the existing system." This was stated by the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, during the Question time in the Chamber, responding to an inquiry from FI about the issues related to the so-called Severino Law, regarding the suspension of regional and local administrators following non-final convictions. "Certainly, it is a violation of the presumption of innocence, which sooner or later will need to be reconsidered," he added.
