Rome, March 29 (LaPresse) – "The idea of limiting access to citizenship for Italian descendants who emigrated abroad is perplexing. We are talking about our grandparents and great-grandparents from Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Lombardy, and Piedmont, and their heritage passed down through generations, even if they were born and raised abroad. However, what is even more surprising is that some want to grant citizenship to young immigrants, often of Islamic background. We will address and amend this proposal in Parliament." This was stated by Graziano Pizzimenti, a Friulian deputy of the Lega party.
Veneto deputy of the Carroccio party, Dimitri Coin, also spoke of "necessary corrections in Parliament," explaining how it is "peculiar that someone in the government has decided to tighten regulations for descendants of emigrants—largely of Venetian, Lombard, Piedmontese, or Friulian origin, and thus of Catholic culture—while at the same time considering granting citizenship to young immigrants who are often Islamic. It is incredible that we are more concerned about our great-grandparents."
