Milan, March 23 (LaPresse) – "We are all against the tariff war. We are all concerned, but I am not just concerned, I am trying to deal with it because the other day I presented the Government's strategy, the action plan of my ministry, to take over extra-EU markets with initiatives from our businesses, which can be either exports or internationalization," said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, on the sidelines of a meeting with young members of Forza Italia in Milan.

"We need to be cautious in these times," Tajani continued. "Displays of muscle are nonsense. We must defend our entrepreneurs, defend our products, and ensure that they can continue to be exported. So, I positively evaluate the decision by Commissioner Sefcovic to delay the decision for two weeks in order to launch a commercial response with a list of products that won't be counterproductive. I have asked that whisky not be included in the list of products to impose tariffs on because a tariff on whisky risks leading to higher tariffs on Italian wines, and it would be foolish to impose one on whisky, because we import little whisky and export a lot of wine. So when I say that we must be prudent, I don't say it out of weakness, I say it because I have read the papers, studied the export and import data, and waging a war that ultimately leads to suicide is truly foolish."
