Rome, Feb. 17 (LaPresse) – ‘The government is determined to move forward, especially in light of the interest and support shown by more and more European nations, on the Italy-Albania protocol: we are determined to find a solution to every obstacle that appears. Not only because we believe in the protocol but also because we claim the right of politics to govern according to the indications of the citizens and the duty of politics to assume its responsibilities'. These were the words of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking at the ‘Conference of the Prefects and Quaestors of Italy on the guidelines for policies to combat irregular immigration’ being held at the Higher School of the Interior Administration. ‘The governance of migratory flows is an issue on which the indication coming from the majority of citizens is very clear: they are asking us to stop illegal immigration because it produces insecurity, lack of integration, inability to guarantee the rule of law. And also because mass illegal immigration is the first enemy of legal migration,’ the premier recalled.
