Mountaineering: the three climbers who died on Gran Paradiso were from Trentino

Trento, 13 June (LaPresse) – The three mountaineers who died on the north face of Gran Paradiso, in Valle d’Aosta, were from Trentino. Antonio Sardano, 49, Sergio Martinelli, 29, and Maicol Zanetti, 39, are believed to have fallen hundreds of metres whilst attempting to reach the summit at an altitude of 4,061 metres. The alarm was raised by the manager of the Chabod refuge, as the group had failed to return. The bodies were found at an altitude of 3,600 metres and transferred to the mortuary in Aosta. Investigations are underway to determine the causes of the tragedy.
