Purgatori case: four doctors to stand trial over journalist’s death

Rome, 5 June (LaPresse) – The four doctors who treated journalist and TV presenter Andrea Purgatori, who died in July 2023, have been committed for trial. The decision was taken by the judge for preliminary investigations in Rome, Paola Petti, at the end of a lengthy hearing during which all parties involved were heard. The medical staff are charged with manslaughter. In the proceedings, the judge for preliminary investigations in Rome also authorised the two healthcare facilities where Purgatori had been admitted prior to his death to be named as civilly liable parties. The court has also admitted an insurance company as a party to the proceedings and recognised the journalist’s family’s right to bring a civil claim. The first hearing has been set for 12 January.
