Rome, June 3 (LaPresse) – Carabinieri officers from the Castrovillari Operations and Mobile Unit, in the province of Cosenza, have arrested a 30-year-old man on charges of attempted femicide. The officers intervened overnight at the emergency room, where a young woman had been admitted with multiple stab wounds to her head and back. The woman's condition immediately appeared serious. The Carabinieri began an immediate investigation and, through the testimonies gathered and the analysis of video surveillance footage, were able to reconstruct the events. According to the findings, the man, an acquaintance of the victim, had repeatedly tried to persuade her to begin a romantic relationship, despite her repeated refusals. On the night of the attack, he had waited for her when she returned home. The young woman, noticing his presence, attempted in vain to dissuade him. The suspect, after stealing her cell phone, then allegedly stabbed her repeatedly in the face and back with a knife, even attempting to strangle her. The woman survived only thanks to the timely intervention of a friend, who scared off the attacker. Subsequent searches allowed officers to locate the 30-year-old at his home. During the search, two knives, the clothing he was wearing, and the vehicle used to reach the scene of the attack were seized, all with apparent traces of blood. The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted femicide and released to the judicial authorities.
