Ebola, MSF: ‘Italian surgeon is asymptomatic and under observation’

Rome, 27 May (LaPresse) – "Médecins Sans Frontières is aware of reports concerning a member of its staff in Bunia – Ituri, Democratic Republic of the Congo – where the organisation is involved in the response to the current Ebola epidemic. The staff member, who is not showing any symptoms, is under medical observation and, as a precautionary measure, will be evacuated for health reasons to her country of origin, Italy. In accordance with strict medical confidentiality." This is MSF’s statement regarding the return to Italy of an Italian surgeon who, on 16 May, came into contact with patients who subsequently tested positive, specifying that the NGO “cannot share further information at this time” and “continues to follow strict protocols to protect its staff and patients”.
