Milan, 16 May (LaPresse) – The two hikers who had been missing since yesterday in the mountainous area of Verzegnis, in the province of Udine, have been found dead. The bodies of the two hikers were recovered this morning after the Friuli Venezia Giulia Mountain Rescue Service resumed the search, following its suspension late yesterday evening. This morning, the search resumed with the assistance of a helicopter, which located the bodies of the two hikers along the ridge between Mount Piombada and Mount Bottai, at Sella Chianzutan. The two hikers were a 23-year-old Austrian and a 24-year-old resident of Germany. Throughout yesterday, around twenty mountain rescue technicians, finance police and firefighters were deployed along the trails: they covered the entire length of trail 811, which starts from Sella Chianzutan (the meeting point for the motorbike they had been using), visited the two mountain huts along the route (Casera Avrint and Bivacco Carcadé), climbed the summits of Mount Bottai and Mount Piombada, and checked, as far as possible, the corresponding most exposed slopes; Trail 827 was also covered, along with the access routes from Val D'Arzino and Alesso, again up to Bivacco Carcadé.
