Milan, 15 April (LaPresse) – To sentence the arsonist Washi Laroo and his two Chinese accomplices to life imprisonment for the massacre in Via Cantoni. This is the request made by the public prosecutor, Luigi Luzi, at the conclusion of his closing speech in the trial concerning the arson attack carried out on the evening of 12 September 2024 at a warehouse-showroom in Milan, motivated by debts linked to drugs and the construction business of the warehouse owner. The fire resulted in the deaths of 19-year-old Chinese national Yindan Dong, her 17-year-old brother Yinjie Liu and the 24-year-old designer An Pan, all three of whom were unconnected to the incident and were sleeping inside the building. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has asked the Milan Assize Court, presided over by President Antonella Bertoja and Associate Judge Sofia Fioretta, to find the 27-year-old Dutchman and the Chinese nationals Zhou Bing and Yijie Yao, aged 41 and 35 respectively, guilty of all four charges brought against them as accomplices, and to sentence them to the maximum penalty of six months’ daytime solitary confinement: aggravated murder, arson, attempted aggravated extortion, and the possession of over 1.3 kg of Shaboo and 1,000 ecstasy tablets found by the Carabinieri in December 2024, during searches and the execution of arrest warrants for the two instigators of the arson and the European arrest warrant against the Dutch national, who fled to Spain after the events. The defence will present its case in court on 27 April. In his closing speech, the deputy prosecutor outlined the stages of the investigation and read out incriminating wiretaps recorded on mobile phones and from in-car surveillance following the triple murder, which allegedly demonstrate the ‘clear responsibility’ of all the defendants.
