Rome, 5 April (LaPresse) – The CEI, the Italian Episcopal Conference, is joining the vigil for peace, scheduled for Saturday 11 April, announced today on Easter Sunday by Pope Leo XIV. “We Christians,” says CEI President Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, “know that it is possible to hope against all hope, despite the death we see all around us – as the Pope reminded us – ‘in the violence, in the wounds of the world, in the cry of pain that rises from every quarter because of the injustices that crush the weakest, because of the idolatry of profit that plunders the earth’s resources, because of the violence of war that kills and destroys’. For this reason, we invite priests, men and women religious, and all the faithful to take part in the vigil presided over by the Pope or to gather in prayer within their local communities: let us halt the vortex of pain, suffering and devastation; let us say ‘no’ to war; let us not grow accustomed to horror.”
