Migrants: 19 dead from hypothermia off the coast of Libya, 5 seriously injured

Palermo, 1 April. (LaPresse) – The toll from the latest shipwreck in the Strait of Sicily is 19 dead and 5 injured in desperate conditions. Around 3am the Italian coast guard rescued a boat full of migrants that left the Libyan coast. The Italian sailors reached the boat 85 miles from Lampedusa, in Libyan SAR waters. There were already more than a dozen bodies on board, people who died of hypothermia. Other migrants died during transport to the island. Five shipwrecked people are in critical condition, including a child, hospitalized at the Lampedusa rescue point.
