Rome, 31 March (LaPresse) – The Italian Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, and the French Minister for the Armed Forces and Veterans, Catherine Vautrin, held an in-depth telephone conversation yesterday afternoon focusing on the serious crisis in Lebanon. This was announced in a joint press release. The two ministers expressed strong and deep concern over the deterioration of the security situation in the region, with particular reference to the recent attacks targeting UNIFIL personnel, which resulted in the deaths of three peacekeepers and injuries to others. They strongly emphasised the unacceptability of such incidents and the growing risks faced by personnel engaged in the mission. During the meeting, there was full agreement on the strategic importance of UNIFIL. It was emphasised that Lebanon’s stability is an essential pillar for the stability of the entire Mediterranean region, confirming that Italy and France will continue to work in close coordination to ensure the safety of international personnel, the preservation of peace and support for the Lebanese authorities.
