Milan, 5 March (LaPresse) – The Milan Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered the seizure of the shoes belonging to the tram driver who was at the wheel of the TramLink 9 that derailed in Viale Vittorio Veneto on Friday, causing two deaths and around fifty injuries, as part of the forensic investigation into the 60-year-old's foot. P.M., who is under investigation for railway disaster, manslaughter and negligent injury, reported that he had suffered an injury at the beginning of his shift, about an hour before the accident, when a disabled person's wheelchair crushed his left big toe while he was helping them get into the tram cabin. This circumstance had already been verified by investigators coordinated by public prosecutors Elisa Calanducci and Corinna Ferrara with the Milan Public Prosecutor, Marcello Viola. The big toe indicated by the man showed a significant contusion, such as to cause the toenail to come off. The seizure of the shoes will serve to seek further confirmation, for example through the marks left on the footwear by the accident. Meanwhile, Flores Calderon, the partner of Ferdinando Favia, one of the victims of the accident, was interviewed by the local police today. The woman reported that she was with Favia at the back of the 25-metre vehicle and had the “perception” that the TramLink was travelling “very fast” before it took the left-hand bend, which was not part of the route, in Via Lazzaretto and derailed into the building on the corner. However, there is still mystery surrounding the internal cameras on the Stadler-manufactured vehicle, particularly the one focused on the driver. In its referral to the traffic police, the Public Prosecutor's Office asked to understand if and why there are no images and whether this could be due to a malfunction or regulations prohibiting the video recording of workers during service.
