Catania, earthquake measuring between 4.1 and 4.6 on the Richter scale

Milan, 4 March (LaPresse) – An earthquake with a magnitude estimated by the INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) to be between 4.1 and 4.6 was recorded in the area of Catania and its province. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology reports that the tremor occurred at 7.05 this morning. Previously, the INGV had reported an earthquake measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale recorded at 5.12 this morning off the north-eastern coast of Sicily (Messina), with the epicentre located at a depth of 126 kilometres. In a further update, the INGV reports that the epicentre of the earthquake that occurred shortly after 7 a.m. was located 3 kilometres northwest of Ragalna, in the province of Catania, on the slopes of Mount Etna, at a depth of 4 kilometres, and that the magnitude recorded was 4.5. At present, there are no reports of damage to people or property.
