Palermo, 18 February. (LaPresse) – The Court of Palermo has ruled that the NGO Sea Watch is to be compensated €76,000 for the unlawful detention of the Sea Watch 3 vessel in June 2019 following the Rackete case, in which the captain forced the naval blockade imposed by the Italian Finance Police and Coast Guard in order to disembark 42 migrants in Lampedusa. The NGO itself announced: “While the Meloni government announces a ‘naval blockade’ and attacks sea rescue NGOs,” Sea Watch commented, “the law once again sides with civil disobedience”. According to the Palermo judges, the state will have to compensate for the documented financial expenses incurred between October and December of that year.
