Pope: ‘Church doctrine on gays and trans people will not change’

Rome, 12 February (LaPresse) – LGBTQ+? ‘It seems very unlikely, at least in the near future, that Church doctrine will change its teachings on sexuality and marriage.’ This is an excerpt from the interview with Pope Leo XIV in “Pope Leo XIV, The Biography” by Elise Ann Allen, published in Italian by Mondadori. In a preview of the text reported by La Repubblica, the Pope reiterates: ‘Individuals will be welcomed and received. Any priest will listen in confession to people of all kinds, with all kinds of difficulties, life situations and choices made. The Church's teaching will continue to remain as it is, and for now I have nothing more to add on this point.’ Prevost also addresses the issue of migrants: ‘One of the most significant initiatives that Pope Francis undertook towards the end of his pontificate was the letter on the treatment of migrants. I was very pleased to see how the US bishops welcomed it and how some of them had the courage to carry on its message.’
