Milan, 30 January (LaPresse) – The Palermo State Police, specifically the Digos (Special Operations Group), under the coordination of the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police of the Department of Public Security, as part of its usual activities to monitor and combat anti-Semitism and all forms of racial, ethnic and religious hatred, following investigations triggered by the publication on social media X of posts with offensive and threatening content towards the Jewish community, carried out a series of searches, including computer searches, against two people residing in the province of Palermo, investigated for the crimes of propaganda and incitement to commit crimes for reasons of racial, ethnic and religious discrimination, aggravated, as well as for the crime of threat. During the investigation, delegated and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office – District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Palermo, a number of devices and computer equipment belonging to the suspects were discovered and seized for subsequent analysis. At the end of the computer search, carried out on the smartphone of one of the suspects, 'several chats were found on an account linked to the suspects which, according to a statement by the State Police, matches the content of the publications under investigation. The history of the account in question showed that requests had been typed into the Meta AI artificial intelligence platform, provided by WhatsApp, asking whether the expressions of derision directed at Jews on the aforementioned social network constituted a crime. The computer search of the smartphone used by the other suspect, on the other hand, revealed that the man was a member of several far-right Telegram groups."
