Rome, 26 January (LaPresse) – Women seem to be playing an increasingly central role in the protests, playing "a role of courage, an enormous role. The Iranian people have always taught us lessons in courage. I often wonder if we Italians, in their place, would have had the same strength to leave our homes and defy fear. Those women and men completely put aside the terror they feel. It is unprecedented courage." This is how Alessia Piperno, the travel planner and writer who was arrested in 2022 and detained for 45 days in Tehran's Evin prison, commented to LaPresse on the situation in Iran after the riots that broke out on 8 January.
