Rome, 21 January (LaPresse) – "He embodied Rome. His beauty transformed it into extraordinary haute couture creations that helped define our concept of elegance and taste throughout the world, because he brought the beauty of Rome and its taste to the world, thus becoming a great ambassador for Rome. Rome is grateful to him; he gave so much to our city." These were the words of Rome's mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, as he left Valentino Garavani's funeral chapel in Piazza Mignanelli, organised at his PM23 foundation, which the mayor considered to be the designer's last gift to the city. ‘He will always remain a key figure for our city,’ continued Gualtieri, adding that ‘we have a duty to remember and honour him as he deserves.’
