Vatican City (Vatican), Jan. 5 (LaPresse) – The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will be present at the closing of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, which will be presided over by Pope Leo XIV tomorrow morning. This was stated by Monsignor Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, during the end-of-year press conference at the Vatican. Fisichella added that more than 33 million pilgrims arrived in Rome for the Jubilee of 2025. “Pilgrims from 185 countries arrived in Rome.” The first assessment of the figures, Monsignor Fisichella specified, records “33,475,369 faithful” who traveled to the capital for the Holy Year of Hope. “The estimates of 31 million pilgrims, made at the beginning of the Jubilee, were largely exceeded,” Monsignor Fisichella said again.
