Naples, Jan. 5 (LaPresse) – "In the coming weeks, we will have a real battle for these patients, and we will have to perform further surgeries. We have already done many; we operated on six immediately, two a little later, and two are currently in the operating room. The problem is that the burns are very extensive. Unfortunately, all of them have also suffered damage from inhaling toxic fumes, so we can expect complications. It is an extremely serious clinical situation." This is according to Giampaolo Casella, director of Anesthesia and Resuscitation at Niguarda Hospital in Milan, regarding the victims of the Crans-Montana fire who are being treated at the Milan hospital. “The situation is that six patients are in critical condition in intensive care and five are in the severe burns unit. Of the six in intensive care, three are in particularly critical condition,” adds Casella.
