Rome, Jan. 5 (LaPresse) – Codacons will file a complaint in the coming hours with the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office, requesting an investigation into the possible charge of mass murder in connection with the tragedy involving a group of young people in Switzerland, where a night out at a club turned into a disaster with victims and numerous injured. "According to initial reconstructions and the news that has emerged in recent hours," the association said in a statement, "the club owners are under investigation for possible offenses related to the incident. However, in light of the elements known so far – excessive crowding, absence or inadequacy of emergency exits, serious deficiencies in escape routes, and completely insufficient emergency management – Codacons considers it necessary to evaluate far more serious charges than involuntary manslaughter. Given structural and organizational conditions that would have made the risk to the safety of a large number of people highly foreseeable and concrete, the Association states that the crime of mass murder cannot be ruled out, based on omissions and grossly reckless behavior that turned the club into a deadly trap. The Association also calls for the incident to serve as a warning for Italy, with stricter controls on capacities, permits, emergency plans, and safety exits in entertainment venues, especially during high-attendance events. Codacons invites the families of the victims and the injured to contact the Association for legal assistance and protection."
