Genoa, 27 December (LaPresse) – The flight risk posed by Hannoun Mohammad, president of the Palestinian Association in Italy, who was among those arrested today in Genoa as part of the investigation into the financing of Hamas terrorism, is ‘real and very current’. According to investigating magistrate Silvia Carpanini, the flight risk arises from the fact that Hannoun had ‘long expressed his intention to move to Turkey and open an office there to relocate the association's activities’. In recent days, wiretaps have revealed that this plan was being implemented with increasing urgency, to the extent that today's date had emerged as the date of departure, in agreement with his family, who would then join him as soon as possible. Finally, as regards the risk of reoffending, the investigating magistrate considers it ‘undoubtedly real and present, both in view of the highly ideological nature of the offence committed and considering the behaviour of the suspects who, despite being included on terrorism lists,’ “continued their activities, circumventing the prohibitions with financial triangulations, exercising ever greater caution, cleaning their computers of compromising material and adopting expedients such as opening new associations to be registered under names not linked to the Movement in order to try to evade the blocks”.
