Turin: Askatasuna demonstration kicks off, already a thousand people in the square

Milan, 20 December (LaPresse) – The demonstration against the eviction of the Askatasuna social centre in Turin is underway: around a thousand people are already gathered outside Palazzo Nuovo. During the first speeches, activists announced that a national assembly will be held in the Piedmontese capital on 17 January in view of a national march on 31 January. Security measures are heavy, with police deployed on the streets: at the moment, the demonstration is proceeding without incident. During the speeches, the protesters recalled Imam Mohamed Shahin and his story, which has also been at the centre of recent political controversy.
