Rome, Dec. 6 (LaPresse) – “This evening, as the melodies touched our souls, we felt the priceless value of music: not a luxury for a few, but a divine gift accessible to all, rich and poor, learned and simple. Therefore, in extending my greeting to everyone, I feel a special joy in welcoming you, brothers and sisters, for whom we have lived this concert today: thank you for your presence.” This was said by Pope Leo XIV, speaking at the sixth edition of the Concert with the Poor in the Paul VI Hall at the Vatican. “Music,” Pope Leo XIV added, “is like a bridge that leads us to God. It is capable of conveying feelings and emotions, even the deepest movements of the soul, lifting them up, transforming them into an ideal stairway that connects earth and heaven. Yes, music can elevate our soul. Not because it distracts us from our misery, because it numbs us or makes us forget life’s problems and difficult situations, but because it reminds us that we are not only this: we are much more than our problems and our troubles, we are children loved by God. It is no coincidence that the celebration of Christmas is filled with traditional songs, in every language, in every culture. As if this Mystery could not be celebrated without music, without hymns of praise.” Pope Leo XIV also expressed “our gratitude to those who performed the music and songs with artistry and passion: the Choir of the Diocese of Rome conducted by Maestro Monsignor Marco Frisina, together with the Nova Opera Orchestra. And I cannot forget the Nova Opera Foundation and all the partners who made this event possible. A special ‘thank you’ goes to the artist Michael Bublé for his presence with us this evening, as well as to Ms. Serena Autieri.”
