We kept it confidential for a little longer, but I think the approach taken by those who oppose it is very theoretical.’ This was stated by the mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, on the sidelines of the event ‘Lombardy at the centre of the Olympic challenge.’ Regarding the timing of the prosecutor's announcement of the investigation for bid rigging on the day of the deed, Sala emphasised: ‘The very day itself is suggestive.’
