It comes after 3–4 years of initiatives, many of which were not publicized because I did not want to create the effect that, when something eventually materializes, no one would believe you, but it is a step up compared to the previous activities of false dossiering, bullets, and threats I received,” said Sigfrido Ranucci at the seminar at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on the Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize.
“The lawsuits are a tool of delegitimization; they have often replaced bullets, because in the 1970s–80s the problem of an inconvenient journalist was ‘solved’ with a bullet, killing them with explosives,” he added.
