Lucca, 20 October (LaPresse) – This morning, officers from the Pisa State Police, together with their colleagues from Verona and Trento, carried out the “deferred” arrest of five Hellas Verona fans, identified as among the most active during the clashes that took place before the football match between Pisa and Verona on 18 October. Digos investigators, who had stopped and identified the group of Verona fans immediately after the police intervention and the dispersal of the opposing factions, viewed the footage found immediately, thus managing to identify and arrest the five fans, four residing in the province of Verona and one in the province of Trento. The arrested fans were found guilty, in various capacities, of the crimes of affray, as well as possession, use and throwing of smoke bombs, bats, sticks, blunt objects and objects capable of causing injury, as punishable by the legislation on sporting events. The four Veronese fans were immediately placed under house arrest, while the Trento fan will be tried in a summary trial. Immediately after the incident, Digos officers seized all the material found at the scene, such as balaclavas, a knife and a box cutter, gloves, telescopic batons, pieces of straps, buckles, smoke bombs, clubs, Geberit pipes and poles, testifying to the violence of the clashes and the belligerent intentions of the opposing factions. The Pisa Digos continues to sift through the images in order to identify other participants in the clashes, both from Verona and Pisa, who had completely disguised themselves for the occasion and were clearly prepared for violence.
