Rome, Oct. 16 (LaPresse) – On the occasion of World Food Day, UNICEF reminds us that this year obesity has surpassed underweight as the most widespread form of malnutrition in the world, affecting 1 in 10 school-age children and adolescents – that is, 188 million. In Italy – according to a statement – more than 1 in 4 children is overweight, while 1 in 10 is obese. These children are at risk of potentially life-threatening diseases. Obesity now exceeds underweight in all regions of the world, except Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. According to UNICEF, the prevalence of underweight among children aged 5 to 19 has decreased since 2000, from almost 13% to 9.2%, while obesity rates have risen from 3% to 9.4%.
