Milan, 15 October (LaPresse) – The Italian Competition and Market Authority has launched an investigation into Philip Morris Italia S.p.A. for possible unfair commercial practices in promoting products using expressions such as “smokeless”, “a smoke-free future” and/or “smokeless products”. This was reported by the authority itself in a statement, adding that ‘these expressions could be unclear and misleading for consumers because they refer to products which, although they do not involve combustion, are not free from possible harmful effects on health, nor are they less harmful than others, and can be addictive’. “Yesterday, officials from the Authority, with the assistance of the Special Antitrust Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, carried out inspections at the premises of Philip Morris Italia S.p.A. and Philip Morris Manufacturing & Technology Bologna S.p.A.,” the press release continues.
