Zaporizhzhia: power supply to the power plant cut off for 3 days

Milan, 27 September (LaPresse) – The external power supply to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine has been cut off for more than three days. This record-breaking outage has raised concerns about the safety of the six-reactor site, according to The Guardian. Emergency generators are being used to power cooling and safety systems after the last power line to the plant was cut on the Russian side at 4.56pm on Tuesday, and there are no signs that the line has been reconnected. Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), called the situation ‘deeply worrying’ and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but the situation has not changed. Russia occupied the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in March 2022, and its reactors, once capable of powering 4 million homes, have been shut down for safety reasons.
