Rome, 25 September (LaPresse) – ‘In a democracy, any civil protest action must be protected when it is carried out in accordance with the rules and international law, and cannot be suppressed with violence.’ This was stated by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto during an urgent briefing in the Chamber of Deputies on the attacks on the Global Sumud Flotilla and developments on the eastern European front. ‘It is not our intention to move our ships to wage war on a friendly country. We are there to protect Italian citizens, as we do when there are dangerous situations in the Libyan sea. It is the same protection mechanism that always comes into play,’ added Crosetto.
