Cagliari, Sept 17 (LaPresse) – Sardinia becomes the second Italian region to adopt a law on assisted dying. The regional council approved the measure with 32 votes in favor, 19 against, and one abstention, following a heated two-day debate that revealed deep divisions both between the opposition and majority and within political groups themselves. The law, drafted by the center-left and broader progressive coalition, is based on a proposal by the Luca Coscioni Association and aligns with the 2019 Constitutional Court ruling on medically assisted suicide. It sets out timelines and procedures to ensure access to healthcare services in such cases, filling a legislative gap at the regional level.
