Rome, 16 September (LaPresse) – In its grounds for the ruling on misdirection, the Rome Court of Appeal highlighted serious irregularities in the conduct of certain members of the Carabinieri. The magistrates reconstructed what happened in the moments immediately preceding, concurrent with and following the drafting of the disputed documents, noting ‘a sequence of anomalies which, when evaluated as a whole, reveal a plan aimed not at ascertaining the truth, but at altering it’. According to the Court, 'in the chain of events immediately preceding, concurrent with and immediately following the drafting of the incriminating notes, it has been established that a series of anomalies occurred which, when considered together, demonstrated that the intention of the Carabinieri commanded by Casarsa, who was responsible for the actions of the Roman Carabinieri both internally and externally and towards other institutions, was not to find “the bad apple”, i.e. to really investigate the dynamics of the events but, on the contrary, to present a convenient version of reality". Among the lawyers representing the civil parties was Diego Perugini, representing prison officer Nicola Minichini.
