Rome, August 27 (LaPresse) – Mediterranea Saving Humans, represented by lawyers Serena Romano and Fabio Lanfranca from the Palermo Bar Association, has filed a criminal complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Trapani, where the ship Mediterranea is currently under administrative detention. The complaint, signed by commander Paval Botica and mission leader Beppe Caccia, reconstructs the events that took place during the latest search and rescue mission. In particular, it reports intimidation by Libyan militias who surrounded the ship in international waters on August 18, and a more serious incident that occurred during the night between August 21 and 22, when a military dinghy, presumably belonging to these militias, violently threw ten people into the sea, who were later rescued by Mediterranea. The organization asks the Judicial Authority to investigate these events, identify those responsible for serious crimes committed by Libyan militias and traffickers, and ascertain any Italian complicity in collaborating with or supporting these criminal groups. Laura Marmorale, president of Mediterranea Saving Humans, responds to statements by the Interior Minister, emphasizing that the organization does not accept lessons on sea rescue from those who, in her view, have supported criminals against humanity like Almasri and backed the so-called Libyan coast guard, accused of shooting at humanitarian ships. Marmorale criticizes Minister Piantedosi for consistently refusing cooperation and coordination in sea rescue operations, stating that monitoring and punishing those who save lives does not mean coordinating. The president reiterates that the Sabratha route, one of the most dangerous, is managed precisely by the men of Almasri and Trebelsi, and invites the minister to confront them directly. She concludes by demanding judicial truth about the collaborations over the years, maintaining that the problem is not NGOs or migrants, but the handing over of Libya to traffickers and the purchase of their services by authorities.
