Naples, Aug 24 (LaPresse) – Last night, the Ocean Viking, the SOS Méditerranée NGO vessel, rescued 47 people, including 9 unaccompanied minors, who were in international waters off the coast of Libya aboard a rubber dinghy in distress. The ship intervened following an alert from AlarmPhone. Most of the migrants come from Sudan. The NGO reported that “the Italian authorities have assigned the port of Marina di Carrara, more than 1,300 km away and three and a half days of sailing. Once again, this distant port takes us away from the central Mediterranean, where rescue efforts are desperately needed. This practice costs human lives every day.”
