Rome, 15 August (LaPresse) – At around 1:20 a.m. last night, an alarm was raised for an American tourist who had gone missing in the Tre Cime di Lavaredo area. The report was made to the 118 emergency services by the Carabinieri, following an emergency call from a 28-year-old woman from Florida. Before her mobile phone became unreachable, the girl managed to communicate some information, including that she was on the Tre Cime, that she had left Misurina, that she had been climbing for about four hours after leaving a refuge and that she had then got lost. Despite the limited information available, the Auronzo Mountain Rescue teams mobilised from the Auronzo Refuge. Upon reaching the Chiesetta dei Caduti, the rescuers began searching on foot along the main trails. In that area, they heard the girl's cries, but due to the echoes in the rocky channels, it was difficult to determine their origin. An experienced drone operator then began a flyover with a thermal camera, while the teams continued to search the area on the ground. The intervention of a volunteer who, descending from the Vallon di Lavaredo towards Val Marzon, heard the tourist's cries for help was decisive. Thanks to the drone's thermal camera, it was possible to locate the woman, who was trapped in a rocky channel. The young woman, dressed in summer clothes, was cold, with scratches on her legs and exhausted. At around 6 a.m., the Falco 2 helicopter carried out the rescue with a 30-metre winch, hoisting the hiker and the rescuer on board. Both were transported to the Auronzo Refuge, where the girl was examined by the medical team and refused transport to hospital. The rescuers accompanied her to Misurina, where she had left her car.
