Milan, 9 August (LaPresse) – Telegram of condolence from Pope Leo XIV on the death of Cardinal Estanislao Esteban Karlic, Archbishop Emeritus of Paraná (Argentina). ‘I remember with esteem this generous and upright pastor who, for many years and with great fidelity, dedicated his life to the service of God and the Church, bringing the light of the Gospel to various areas of life and culture,’ wrote the Pontiff in a message sent to Monsignor Raúl Martín, Metropolitan Archbishop of Paraná. Karlic "served as priest and bishop in the archdioceses of Córdoba and Paraná, and was president of the Argentine Bishops' Conference for two consecutive terms, welcoming my predecessor St. John Paul II on his apostolic journey to that country. In addition, among his many pastoral activities and initiatives at the local, national and continental levels, he generously offered himself to the service of the universal Church, collaborating in the drafting of the Catechism of the Catholic Church," Prevost added.
