Trento, July 28. (LaPresse) – Multiple rockfalls have affected the western and eastern slopes of Cima Falkner, in the Brenta group in Trentino. All climbing routes and trails directly affecting the area, including Benini (no. 305) and trails nos. 315, 316, and 331, have been closed with immediate effect. The decision was taken during a technical meeting convened by the Department of Civil Protection, Forests and Wildlife of the Autonomous Province of Trento, which was attended by the Geological, Firefighting and Civil Protection Services, Risk Prevention and Cue, Forests, the municipalities of Tre Ville and Ville d'Anaunia, the Tridentine Mountaineering Society, the Trentino Mountain and Cave Rescue Service, and the Federation of Volunteer Firefighters of Trentino. “The technical inspection has highlighted that the entire peak is affected by an ongoing morphogenetic phenomenon, likely related to the degradation of the permafrost,” the Province reports. "During the inspection, fractures showing signs of recent evolution were detected, as well as the presence of ice in the detachment niches. This indicates ongoing instability, with the potential for the situation to worsen." The mayors of the municipalities of Tre Ville and Ville d'Anaunia are issuing emergency orders to prohibit access to the trails starting from the Grostè Pass. In light of the closure of trail 316, the Tuckett refuge can only be reached from Vallesinella-Casinei. The area around Cima Falkner will be constantly monitored by the Geological Service and the Fire Department's drone unit. All hikers in the area have been evacuated and informed at the Stoppani refuge at Grostè and at the top station of the Grostè chairlift.
