Vatican City (Vatican), July 28 (LaPresse) – Pope Leo XIV "learned with dismay and deep sorrow of the attack on the Blessed Bienheureuse-Anuarite Parish of Komanda in the Ituri province (in Congo), which resulted in the death of several faithful gathered for worship." This is stated in a telegram sent on behalf of the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, to Monsignor Fulgence Muteba Mugalu, president of the Episcopal Conference of the Congo. The Pontiff "joins in the mourning of the families and the Christian community deeply affected, expressing his closeness and assuring them of his prayers." In the message, the Pope emphasizes that "this tragedy further encourages us to work for the integral human development of the devastated population of this region." Finally, the Pope prays to God that "the blood of these martyrs may be a seed of peace, reconciliation, brotherhood, and love for all the Congolese people." Pope Leo XIV also sends his blessing to the afflicted parish and "especially to the grieving families, as well as to the daughters and sons of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the entire nation."
