Milan, July 24 (LaPresse) – The Regional Council of the Aosta Valley has rejected a regional bill regarding procedures and timelines for regional healthcare support in medically assisted suicide. The proposal, introduced by the Civic Progressive Project group, received 27 abstentions (from UV, SA, Lega VdA, RV, FI, Councillor Cretier of FP-PD, and Councillor Carrel of PLA) and 7 votes in favor (PCP, Councillors Bertin, Jean-Pierre Guichardaz, Malacrinò, Padovani of FP-PD, and Aldo Di Marco of PLA). Councillor Lucianaz of the Mixed Group did not participate in the vote.
At the same time, the Assembly approved an agenda item with 23 votes in favor (from UV, FP-PD, PLA, SA, RV), 9 abstentions (Lega VdA, FI), and no participation from PCP and GM groups. The item, proposed by the majority groups, calls on Parliament to adopt a comprehensive and coherent national law on assisted suicide. The Assembly emphasized "the absolute need for Italy to adopt modern legislation that respects patients’ rights and follows the clear guidelines already issued by the Constitutional Court," urging that this should happen without further delay. The Regional Council President has been tasked with forwarding the resolution to Senate and Chamber of Deputies group leaders, to ensure Parliament fully addresses the Constitutional Court’s repeated appeals and enacts legislation on end-of-life choices.
