Rome, 21 July (LaPresse) – The Ministry of Health ‘is operational and in constant contact with the regions, authorities and institutions to ensure constant and timely monitoring of the spread of the West Nile virus’. A statement reads that "the Arbovirosi Operational Group (GOA), which met this morning, has agreed on recommendations to strengthen the prevention and surveillance activities provided for in the National Arbovirosi Plan and issued in a circular signed today by the Ministry of Health. The public service number 1500, managed by the Ministry of Health, has been alerted to provide citizens with all useful information on the prevention of West Nile virus." The situation “is under control and it remains important to adopt the measures provided for in the Plan and to adequately inform citizens about measures to protect themselves from mosquitoes, which are carriers of the virus. I would like to remind you that the virus is not transmitted from person to person through contact with infected individuals,” said Maria Rosaria Campitiello, Head of the Prevention Department at the Ministry of Health.
