Rome, 21 July (LaPresse) – During a telephone conversation with Palestinian Authority President Abu Mazen, Pope Leo XIV ‘renewed his appeal for full respect for international humanitarian law, emphasising the obligation to protect civilians and holy places and the prohibition of the indiscriminate use of force and the forced transfer of the population’. This was stated in a press release from the Holy See Press Office. ‘Given the dramatic humanitarian situation,’ the statement continued, ‘the urgency of providing assistance to those most exposed to the consequences of the conflict and of allowing adequate access for humanitarian aid was emphasised.’Finally, the Pope ‘recalled the auspicious tenth anniversary of the Global Agreement between the Holy See and the State of Palestine, signed on 26 June 2015 and entered into force on 2 January 2016.’
