Rome, 14 July (LaPresse) – The Rome Court of Appeal has upheld the sentence of one year and six months for Francesco Bidognetti, boss of the Casalesi clan, for threats made in 2008 during the “Spartacus” trial in Naples against writer Roberto Saviano, journalist Rosaria Capacchione and a magistrate. The case refers to an incident that took place in the courtroom, when Bidognetti (charged with mafia association) attempted to intimidate the victims with seriously threatening statements, aggravated by mafia methods. In May 2021, the court of first instance had already recognised the seriousness of the act, classifying it as an attempt to influence the trial through mafia intimidation. Along with Bidognetti, his defence lawyer Michele Santonastaso, who had read the threatening statements in court, was also sentenced to one year and two months. Rosaria Capacchione, at the time a reporter covering the activities of the Caserta clans, is now a symbol of investigative journalism against organised crime.
