Milan, 13 July (LaPresse) – The ship Handala, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, has set sail from the port of Sicuracusa, bound for Gaza to bring humanitarian aid to the Strip. ‘We are sailing for Palestinian children,’ they write on social media. On board are doctors, lawyers, social justice activists, journalists and community organisers. The new mission comes just over a month after another Freedom Flotilla ship, the Madleen, was seized by Israeli forces while carrying, among others, activist Greta Thunberg. The ship is named after Handala, a Palestinian comic book character: a barefoot refugee child who turns his back on injustice and has vowed not to turn around until Palestine is free. Handala is often depicted hand in hand with Vik, Vittorio Arrigoni, the Italian activist who dedicated his life to defending human rights, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
